helping raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis

Since 2012 DA Global have been involved in helping raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis. We started out as a sponsor of the Macarthur Regions Cystic Fibrosis event helping in both the swimathon & the major fundraiser held in February of each year.

After witnessing the courage of the people with this dreadful aliment, Dom & Jo decided they wanted to do more. In 2014 DA Global became the main sponsor of the event donating $ 20,000 to this very worthwhile cause. One cannot help but be touched by the accounts of the children who have this gene & how they are forced to live their lives. The Macarthur region, for some unexplained reason, is the hub of CF in NSW. We want to help find a cure & we need your help.

The facts about CF:

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a recessive genetic condition. The gene involved in CF gives instructions for the cells to make a protein that controls the movement of salt in and out of cells. This salt transport gene lies on chromosome 7. Everyone has two copies of chromosome 7 and therefore everyone has two copies of the salt transport gene. Scientists have called it the CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Regulator) gene.

  • CF is the most common life threatening, recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children.
  • Symptoms can include poor weight gain, troublesome coughs, repeated chest infections, salty sweat and abnormal stools.
  • Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects a number of organs in the body (especially the lungs and pancreas) by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus.
  • Repeated infections and blockages can cause irreversible lung damage and death. Mucus can also cause problems in the pancreas preventing the release of enzymes needed for the digestion of food. This means that people with CF can have problems with nutrition.
  • CF is an inherited condition. For a child to be born with CF both parents must be genetic carriers for CF. They do not have CF themselves. See Causes.
  • More than a million people carry the CF gene. Nationally, that's one in 25 Australians but the incidence is even higher in Tasmania where it's one in 20 people.
  • In Australia, all babies are screened at birth for CF.
  • At present there is no cure for CF, but the faulty gene has been identified and doctors and scientists are working to find ways of repairing or replacing it. One of the main objectives of the CFA Research Trust is to fund this work.
  • With today's improved treatment most people with CF are able to lead reasonably normal and productive lives. A great amount of time is being directed towards finding new and improved ways of treating CF and of finally finding a cure.

Please help us find a cure so our children can live a normal life.

While we have made some inroads, we have much to still do. Last year the Macarthur area raised $135,572.65 which was donated to the Children's Hospital in Randwick. There are no admin fees, no servicing costs from any money raised. All funds received are passed in full to the Children's Hospital. Please see photo below.

DP World Infrastructure Charge - Sydney and Melbourne

DP World advises that from 3 April 2017 there will be an increase to the Infrastructure Surcharge in Melbourne from $3.50 to $32.50 per container, while in Sydney the per container fee will be introduced at $21.16 for all containers received or delivered into the terminal.

The CBFCA supports the views of other industry associations that the costs should be absorbed by the stevedore or passed on to their clients. Such fees will add to the cost of international trade and ultimately paid by the consumer. It should be noted that an infrastructure surcharge is already in place at Brisbane Terminal, whereas there is no such charge at Fremantle Terminal.

HELP US REACH OUR GOAL

Knowledge is all powerful. A true statement & one that should allow everyone regardless of where you live, your religion, your background, all people should be able to learn & grow. With this in mind, DA Global is honoured to be associated with Books over the Sea. A program helping children to be able to read books, grow & gain valuable knowledge & life skills.

The challenge, to climb 840 metres up an almost vertical mountain at times, to raise money for stage 2 of the library project in Fiji. Can it be done, only with your help. Please see the link & some more information on the next challenge for Dom & DA Global.
